VOLUNTEERING

FATN Talking News is always looking for additional volunteers - see below - to assist in providing Talking Newspaper services to visually impaired people living in our coverage area. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer then please Contact Us by telephone, post or e-mail.

Reader: you would form part of a small team operating on a rota basis for the editing of local newspapers and reading of the stories during a 80 minute recording period. You would be asked to attend an audition before being accepted as a reader and training is provided on editing and reading techniques.

Recording Engineer: one recording engineer is allocated on a rota basis for each recording session who is responsible for the quality of the digital recording and the post-record editing. Reasonable computer operating knowledge is required and some electronic knowledge would be an advantage. Full training is provided.

Production Assistant: you would be part of a small team operating on a rota basis for the logging-in of returned listener memory sticks, the duplication of new recordings onto blank memory sticks and their logging-out to the listeners. Full training is provided on all aspects of barcode logging and memory stick duplication.


Duty Officer: this requirement is for a volunteer to work on a rota basis to answer the telephone and assist the caller with any queries about our service or to take messages to pass on to another volunteer who can answer the query. In addition, some general administration work would be involved.
